Guitars Currently on the bench...May 2009 1) Slope-Shouldered Dreadnought I just recently sealed the box on this Lutz Spruce over Cocobolo Sloper. It will feature a 5 piece laminated slotted headstock neck and be joined to the body at the 12th fret. Some recent innovations that I incorporated on this this guitar will be a specially reinforced upper bout as well as carbon composite fiber reinforced X-bracing. The top was exceptionally musical before sealing it up so I have a feeling that this guitar will be special in tone, volume and sustain. The neck is in the process of being carved...one of my favorite operations. I'm hoping to have everything finalized and ready for finishing in a few more weeks. June 3, 2009
My good friend, Rex Ellsworth who was trained as a jeweler inlayed this and I couldn't be happier. I plan to use Rex for some creative headstock inlays along the way. Feel free to use your imagination in requesting a personal inlay statement...I'm sure that Rex will be up to any challenge sent his way! Now that the fretboard is back, I'll be gluing it to the neck and installing frets.
2) Orchestra Model This guitar has just emerged from the planning stage and I will soon be bending the Honduras Mahogany sides. Stay tuned for future postings! June 9, 2009
This guitar will be topped with Western Red Cedar and promises to be a real fingerstyle singer! |

Here's a shot of the 12th fret inlay I am planning to use. It's my 3-dot triangle logo made from copper bar stock and abalone dots. I used this logo on my headstock for years and now plan to have it as a 12th fret marker. The 3 dots represent my 3 sons who are the most important part of my life.
Here are the sides glued to the neck and tail blocks. The kerfed liners are glued on as well as the side braces. This pic also shows how the back will appear. In order to liven up the look of plain Mahogany, I added a wedge of Ribbon Sapele bordered by Cocobolo. To me, it adds some visual interest. Next step is to glue on the braces and then glue it to the sides.
